Recently, a number of high-profile celebrities, from TV weatherman Al Roker to American Idol’s Randy Jackson, have made headlines as a result of undergoing weight loss surgery. Supporters of such surgery say that it offers hope for people who seem unable to lose weight any other way. They maintain that it is difficult to lose 50 or more pounds without surgical intervention. Critics, however, maintain that surgery—especially stomach surgery—is risky business and should be approached with the utmost caution. They worry that surgery is a quick fix which does not help to resolve an individual’s problem dealing with food.

You might wonder under what conditions surgery would be recommended. Generally speaking, surgery is only an option for those who have suffer from obesity for a protracted period of time (meaning years), have a body mass index or BMI of more than 40, and whose lives could be cut short because of their excessive weight gain. Also, stomach stapling surgery is usually limited to those who have already reached adulthood.

Conversely, you would not be a candidate for stomach reduction surgery if you have been severely overweight for a short period of time; if you suffer from drug or alcohol addiction; or you have been diagnosed with mental illness. In other words, you need to be fully cognizant and have a detailed understanding of the reasons for your obesity.

You should know that stomach reduction surgery is a proven weight-reducer. You could lose nearly all of your extra weight by undergoing the procedure. Thus, surgery may negate the need for a diet plan, although there is the slim possibility that you could end up putting on additional pounds after your operation.

There are a myriad of reasons why you might consider stomach stapling surgery. For instance, if you are suffering from adult onset diabetes or heart trouble, you might want to undergo the operation. If you are so obese that you can barely walk, surgery might be for you. If your weight has gotten to the point where you literally find it difficult to get out of bed, an operation might be appropriate.

Of course, stomach stapling surgery is not without its risks. In less than two percent of the cases, death may occur. Also, there is the possibility that after surgery you may experience vomiting if you attempt to eat too much. And then there’s the psychological fallout. If you’ve been a heavy person all your life, you may have trouble adjusting to your new thin status. You may even find that your relationships with relatives and friends change after you have undergone surgery. As a result of this, some physicians recommend that candidates for stomach stapling surgery meet with a psychotherapist who can help them develop coping mechanisms before and after the surgery.

Obviously, undergoing surgery is a serious step—one that should not be undertaken lightly. As a result, you might want to ask yourself some questions before going under the knife: Why do I want to undergo surgery? What if I discover there are unexpected side-effects from surgery? Will I be able to deal with them? What are my options if I do not undergo surgery? Will my family and friends support my decision to undergo an operation? Am I considering surgery out of vanity, or because of a serious health threat? Will years be added to my life after I undergo surgery?

Of course, you cannot make the decision for stomach surgery on your own. You will need to consult your family physician to determine if an operation is right for you. If your doctor gives the O.K., you will then have to meet with the surgeon. Make sure to check the surgeon’s credentials and consider having a second opinion. The more preparation you do before your operation, the better off you will be. Obviously, stomach stapling surgery is not for everyone. It carries with it physical and emotional risks. However, the prognosis for those who undergo such surgery is good. And you could end up being in much better health in the long run, if you are able to successfully lose your excess weight.

The day will come when you can use something you read about here to have a beneficial impact. Then you’ll be glad you took the time to learn more about weight loss surgery

The Use of Lap Band in Weight Loss Surgery

People with a weight problem have been looking into ways to lose the weight and keep it off. Sometimes they have success, but it takes tremendous amounts of discipline that keeps them on a very strict diet.  Many times when they reach a plateau -where they stop losing weight-frustration sets in and they go back to their old ways of eating.   Furthermore, many people have weight problems due to genetic conditions that cause them to gain weight.  Morbid obesity is a dangerous condition for anyone, and people who are in good health could benefit from weight loss surgery that utilizes the lap band.

Weight loss using the lap band has been very successful, and many doctors in Australia and Europe have used this technique during the initial phase of human trials. Lap band weight loss surgery works by placing an inflatable Slapstick band around the upper part of the stomach.  This creates a small gastric pouch that eliminates the need for the doctor to reconnect the stomach to the intestines. The Lap-Band procedure is done laparoscopically.

This surgery uses a Slapstick band, plastic access port, and a connecting tube.  The band has a plastic ring in the inside that is filled with water once it has been placed around the upper part of the stomach.    From there, water is injected into the lining, causing it to expand and partially close the opening of the stomach.   Weight loss surgery through the lap band helps to limit how much food passes into the stomach.    The access port is attached to the band, and water can be injected or removed from the ring as needed by using a needle and syringe.

When the doctor first inserts the lap band during weight loss surgery, the passage at the top of the stomach is cleaned. The lap band is then put into place and secured using a special interlocking mechanism. The access port is then implanted just beneath the skin and the ring is then filled with water.  The doctor will add or remove water as he or she see fits based on how the patient’s weight loss regimen is going after the weight loss surgery with the lap band.

Weight loss surgery with the lap band has had encouraging results but patients need to work with their doctor in administering the use of lap band to narrow and widen the stomach entrance.   Patients will see an average weight loss of eighty to one hundred pounds using this technique.  As everyone is different, more or less weight can be lost depending on how strictly the patient follows the diet the doctor advises and how their body adjusts to the tightness of the band.   While weight loss using weight loss surgery with the lap band takes longer than other procedures, patients will lose the most pounds during the first three months.

Lap band weight loss surgery can be helpful for people who are morbidly obese and willing to have a healthier lifestyle.

Five Ways to Weight Loss, Which One is for You?

There is more harm caused to an overweight person than just pride as many serious medical conditions are a result of one being overweight. Weight is not just a simple health problem and an easy weight loss treatment that works 100 percent of the time doesn’t exist. Surprisingly, there are methods that provide a high degree of success which We’ll breifly discuss below;

1. Natural Weight Loss

The principle of natural weight loss is not consuming more calories than your body uses. A reasonable approach to natural weight loss is to stick to a diet that is high in complex carbohydrates and fibre, moderate in protein, and low in fat. A meal such as this would be something like a baked potato (complex carbohydrate), the fiber is vegetables and protein is a lean cut of meat.To maintain a healthy lifestyle, you should also throw in some lite physical activity such as a walk/jog in the park or a little gym work once or twice a week. This also helps you feel more energetic and helps increase the metabolism rate.

2. Weight Loss Drugs

There are many overweight people who are impatient and want instant results so they resort to taking weight loss drugs instead of living a healthy lifestyle. These drugs work in a variety of ways but mainly they try to fool the brain into thinking the stomach is full and increase the person’s metabolism.Weight control pills can be prescribed by your doctor, dietitian or purchased in a drug store and despite the advances made in the drug manufacture, there are still dangers including vomiting and stomach problems. You must check the packet carefully before you decide to use them because some of the other side effects can be even more harmful, like the possibility of a heart attack or even a stroke, with hallucinations, tremors, breathing problems and convulsions all recorded as side effects for users of these drugs.

3. Lipsuction

Liposuction or Lipoplasty as the cosmetic surgeons refer to it has become another very popular aesthetic body treatment which removes unwanted body fat. This normally works best for the thighs, bottom and stomach as it can treat this problem when some other methods fail. Two basic techniques of Liposuction used are the Tumescent and Ultrasonic techniques. The most popular of these two is the Tumescent method.

4. Green Tea

Nature seems to have a cure for everything if you can find it and with the health benefits of green tea only just being understood, it is used a great deal especially within the weight loss industry and for products which are used as antioxidants. Green tea weight loss extracts can be purchased easily in liquid and tablet form but whichever way you take it, you will burn calories, naturally. There is generally an acclimatization period of a couple of days when using this product, during which time the user may feel some stomach and bowel discomfort but it shouldn’t take too long before this vanishes. Results are normally obvious within the first week, particularly if you complete the diet with physical exercise, lots of liquids and green food.

5. Hoodia

One of the biggest discoveries in recent years to help people control their weight is the Hoodia plant and for many people this plant has great potential. Hoodia is from the cactus family and there are thirteen in all. Only one variant, the ‘Gordonii’, possesses the ability to suppress appetite. Hoodia weight loss products are all the more effective given the fact that they are completely free from side-effects. There are no unpleasant digestive problems or heart rhythm disturbances that often happen with other appetite inhibitors. This does not mean however, that you should discontinue healthy eating and drinking during the time you are taking it.

So in conclusion, regardless of what weight loss system or product you use, there can never be a substitute for living a healthy lifestyle. There is no point to weight loss if you are going to damage yourself in the process. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat right, drink right and excercise right. You will feel great for it.
